AQUA: Water Infrastructure, Ecosystems, and Society
Special Issue on
Intermittent Water Supply: Challenges, Opportunities and Solutions
CALL FOR PAPERS
Intermittent Water Supply is common in the majority of countries in South Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. There are different factors that cause intermittency in water systems such as natural, technical and financial scarcity as well as user behaviour and institutional aspects. Intermittent access to water can have consequences on public health and social equity. Intermittent Water Supply systems are considered as failing systems that in long-term are not sustainable. A lot of work has been done by researchers and practitioners to better understand these systems, to improve their operation and management, and eventually their conversion to continuous water supply systems. Currently, there is no single journal that is attracting IWS related publications. A Special Issue with a selection of high quality technical publications, as well as case studies from regions affected by IWS, will act as a reference for practitioners and scientists working on this topic.
This Special Issue aims at publishing high-quality and innovative papers that demonstrate the challenges, opportunities and solutions of intermittent water supply systems, highlighting one or more of the following aspects:
- The role of social, economic, technical and institutional aspects in success or failure of these systems
- Network management
- Water quality management
- Impacts on public health
- Solutions to improve equity
- Methods and tools for modelling IWS systems
- Transition from intermittent to continuous supply
