A short description is given of a method for preparing a balance of transported solids along the Vistula river on the basis of many years' monitoring and observations of transportation of suspended solids. This method is based on direct monitoring of the transported solids and denudation indices determined for non-observed areas of the river basin. The Vistula balance is shown in tables and on a graph. The individual sections of the Vistula river bed are also characterized from the viewpoint of its stability. Finally, it is pointed out that working out the balance in this way permits general evaluation of the denudation processes in the river basin, and the mean denudation index of the Vistula river basin is calculated with regard to the volume of solids sedimented in water reservoirs.
