Water Reuse Special Issue on:

Metal-Microbe Applications for Water Reuse in a Circular Economy

CALL FOR PAPERS

This Special issue will be associated with the IMAB23 – International Congress on Metal-Microbe Applications for Circular Economy held from 19th-21st April 2023 in Porto, Portugal. IMAB23 aims to present new developments on the chemical, molecular and biogeochemical mechanisms of microbial-mediated processes underpinned by metals. Technologies for water and waste treatment, reduction and re-utilisation, along with resource recovery and bioenergy production, to sustain competitiveness, social well-being and the type of high environmental quality standards are necessary for modern economies.

There is increasing evidence of the relevance of metal-microorganism interactions for management of contaminated waste, wastewater (e.g. industrial wastewater effluents and digestates from AD) and other contaminated waters, including water re-use and potential metal recovery approaches promoting the circular economy.

This Special issue will provide valuable information for the readership of the journal, as it will provide readers an opportunity to stay on top of the latest developments in tools, approaches and methods to identify, assess and manage trace metals in the context of on all aspects of the treatment and use of non-conventional water resources focusing on metal-microbe applications for circular economy.

We are pleased to invite you to submit a manuscript to Water Reuse for peer review and possible publication in a Special Issue entitled Metal-Microbe Applications for Water Reuse in a Circular Economy.

Relevant topics include:

  • Analysis and bioavailability of metals in the context of treatment and reuse of non-conventional water resources
  • Microbial interactions with metals and their relevance for treatment and reuse of non-conventional water resources
  • Mathematical modelling of metal-microbe interactions in biotechnologies applied to non-conventional water resources
  • Biotechnologies for metal-microbe applications in treatment and reuse of non-conventional water resources
  • Closing the loop for the circular economy: metal removal and recovery from non-conventional water resources

Key dates:

Deadline for manuscript submission: 31st December 2023

Expected publication: Articles will be published online as soon as possible after acceptance.
