Water Reuse Special Issue on
AI for Water
CALL FOR PAPERS
The amount of water data is growing along with the massive deployment of sensors in the network, intensifying the systemic complexity in the water sector. In this context, a paradigm shift to intelligent water systems is urgent and necessary.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly utilized and adapted as a tool for helping to manage water systems in a fit-for-purpose way. With combinations of sensors and human knowledge, AI tools are already established to optimize desalination plants, to support water quality monitoring and flood forecasting, to reduce pipe leaks and bursts, etc.
However, questions and concerns are also rising on the issue. For example, how do we solve the problems in existing systems by using AI? How do we integrate AI tools to support decision-making? How do we make use of AI to achieve sustainable and resilient water systems and net-zero carbon emissions in the water sector? Are there any ethical concerns in the deployment of AI? These questions need to be critically examined as the field progresses.
The aim of this Special Issue is to provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and spread knowledge across industry and academia. We welcome diverse topics including theoretical exploration, methodological development, tools development, system design, case studies, etc. We are pleased to invite you to submit a manuscript (articles, critic reviews, perspectives and comments, etc.) to Water Reuse for peer review and possible publication in a Special Issue entitled ‘AI for Water’.
Relevant topics include:
- Strategies, applications, cases, and lessons of ‘AI for Water’ in enterprises.
- Methods and tools of ‘AI for Water’, e.g., machine learning, sensor intelligence, computer vision.
