In addition to the domain size, two different slope magnitudes were considered: 10 and 30 °. Homogeneous soil with loamy sand texture was adopted, assuming the van Genuchten–Mualem soil hydraulic model (van Genuchten 1980) (see Table 1 for soil hydraulic parameters based on the Carsel and Parrish soil catalog; Carsel & Parrish 1988). Hysteresis in the soil hydraulic functions was not considered. Simulations were initialized with uniformly distributed soil moisture at either θi = 0.07 or θi = 0.26. With loamy sand texture, these soil water contents correspond to pressure head h = –1 m and h = –0.1 m, respectively.
