With the structure of the experimental pipeline system, the amount of turbulence intensity reduction by a single transient event ( ) was about 1.822. Data for chlorine concentration under different hydraulic conditions over 4 days were used to compare the rate of chlorine decay. In this study, each transient event has an identical total turbulent intensity that is repeated every 10 seconds. Therefore, Equation (17) can be simplified as follows:
formula

Table 5 summarizes the total number of transient events over 4 days and the corresponding total amount of turbulence intensity reduction. The total reduction of turbulence intensity, , increased as the interval between transient events interval was decreased.
