The results of ecological biodiversity indexes showed that a single air sparging treatment could enhance the microbial diversity significantly, but neither single bioaugmentation nor the combination of air sparging and bioaugmentation could significantly enhance microbial diversity (Table 1). One possible reason for this phenomenon could have been that effective removal of nitrobenzene with air sparging and bioaugmentation led to a lack of microbial growth substrate.
