Average discharge = population × rate of water supply × % of water supply as sewage flow = 4,500 × 0.03 m3/no./day × 0.75 = 100 m3/day
Retention time = 3 hours
Capacity of sedimentation tank = 100 × 3/24 = 12 m3 = L × b × d = 3.1 × 3.1 × 1.25
→ Overflow rate = 10.4 m3/m2·day and A = Q/Vo = 100/10.5 = 9.6 m2 (3.1 × 3.1)
tr = V/Q = AxD/Q → D = tr x Q/A = 1.25 m
