Special Issue on:
WASH Economics and Financing: towards a better understanding of costs and benefits
Water, Sanitation and Health is essential for protecting public health and is a human right. It therefore requires investment. However, there is uncertainty about how to allocate resources efficiently as there is limited evidence on the cost efficiency and cost effectiveness of various policy and implementation choices.
In this Special Issue of Journal of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Development, we invited papers that draw on behavioural insights from economics, finance and related fields to create a fuller picture of WASH cost-effectiveness. Submissions covered topics including:
- Household preferences for WASH goods and services
- Drivers of demand for WASH goods and services
- Valuations and costings of WASH goods and services
- Gender and other (e.g., geography, climate) differentials in the above topics
- Effectiveness of interventions in affecting preferences, demand, uptake of WASH goods and services
- Novel approaches to project or programme financing
