Within its role as Flemish reference laboratory for environmental analyses, VITO carried out a study to standardise the sniffing team measurement strategy in Flanders. The study consisted of a literature review in which the different methods used in Flanders were described, and an experimental part in which the methods were validated by means of controlled release experiments with hydrogen disulphide and butyric acid. On the basis of the results of the release experiments the influence of the number of panel members, the stability class and the wind velocity were determined. Furthermore the required number of measurements was statistically determined. The conclusions of the study were summarized in a Code of Good Practice. This paper presents the experimental setup and the main conclusions of the release experiments
