The key aspect of the Pipe Rehabilitation Management (PiReM) research project is to develop a decision support system for the planning process of rehabilitation measures in water supply systems. The project is part of the “Waterpool” competence network which has the aim of supporting water works in the development of their competence with water. Therefore, research projects in cooperation between water works and research institutes have been generated. The result, in our case PiReM-software, ultimately belongs to the water works, and is to be used for their own planning or for consulting other water works. Currently, PiReM software supports the decision-making process of rehabilitation planning with two modules. These are long term rehabilitation strategies (10 years) and midterm rehabilitation planning (analysing rehabilitation priorities). The planning of annual construction sites is foreseen to be implemented as a third module.
