Abstract

The practicality of disinfecting sewage effluents with ultraviolet light irradiation CUV) was investigated with a pilot scale proprietary unit. Field study results demonstrated that UV irradiation could consistently achieve a bacteriological quality of 2,500 total coliform counts/100 ml in tertiary and high quality secondary effluents. This bacteriological quality could be maintained in effluents simulating minor plant upset conditions.
