Let me welcome you to this first 2019 issue of Water Supply that has just reverted to its original name. May I first of all thank Wolfgang Rauch for his excellent service as Editor-in-Chief of Water Supply over the past four years and for sharing his experience with me. Taking over from Wolfgang – who will carry on as Editor-in-Chief of Water Science & Technology – I am accepting a challenge and I am looking forward to it.

The new/old name is just one of a number of changes that are being made. We will refresh the Aims and Scope of the journal and the purpose of this is to highlight traditional subjects that are becoming increasingly relevant (e.g. drought risk management and water supply of mega-cities) and to add an emphasis on emerging topics such as smart water distribution systems.
