On-site electro-chlorination (OSEC) is a technology for producing sodium hypochlorite as an effective disinfectant from the electrolysis of a water and salt solution. The paper evaluates the introduction of this technology in Iraq and compares it with two traditional disinfection systems already present in the country: HTH powder and gas chlorine. This study, in conjunction with an economic evaluation, identifies the key factors that make electro-chlorination an important alternative in the context of Iraqi water treatment.
