Water Supply Special Issue on

The role of environmental education for water conservation and water pollution prevention: experiences and programs from all over the world

CALL FOR PAPERS

Environmental education is a process that equips people with the knowledge to delve into environmental issues, take part in problem prevention and solving, and take action to improve the environment. Water conservation and water pollution prevention are two significant environmental issues for both scientists and non-scientists. It is fundamental that technical and scientific results are shared with the broader audience of the layman community. Scientists usually prefer to discuss issues among peers because they do not have to simplify their mode of communication. This creates a barrier between scientists and non-scientists that is difficult to overcome.

Environmental education is the method to overcome this barrier. It is commonly assumed that there is no age limit when it comes to changing mindsets and behaviour, but it is easier to develop long-lasting values, skills, behaviors and habits in children and the youth. Environmental issues should be a included in the curriculum from pre-school to university and beyond. Therefore, the main aim of this Special Issue is to collect contributions from all over the word presenting and discussing examples of programs concerning environmental education in terms of water conservation and water pollution prevention.

Sharing knowledge about water supply, with an appropriate environmental educational approach, is fundamental when pursuing sustainable development and to practically achieve the SDGs, in general, and specifically those related to water. Experiences of the positive impacts of environmental education in achieving other goals – e.g. in energy saving and solid waste reduction and recycling, which could be relevant for water-related education – would also be welcome.

We are pleased to invite you to submit a manuscript to Water Supply for peer review and possible publication in a Special Issue entitled “The role of environmental education for water conservation and water pollution prevention: experiences and programs from all over the world”.
