In this paper we summarize the results obtained from 4 years study of the oxygen dynamics of small, macrophyte dominated low-land streams in Denmark. We describe the development of models for the important biological components, that is macrophytes, sediment organic matter and chlorophyll-a, and discuss the coupling of these models to models for biological and physical processes affecting the oxygen concentration in the stream.
