A dynamic, stochastic model of nitrification in a Carrousel Oxidation Ditch wastewater treatment process is constructed using systems analysis techniques and operational data. Input and output data time-series are passed through Kaiman Filter algorithms in order to estimate model parameters recursively. Successive hypotheses on model structure arise from un-modelled parameter time-behaviour. Performance of the proposed model in both adaptive and non-adaptive simulation is good but performance in verification is less acceptable.
