This paper presents a prediction model for calculating the expected effluent performance of a facultative waste stabilization pond. The model is intended to improve on current design approaches through more appropriate recognition of physical and climatic factors which affect the prediction of pond performance. The importance of hydraulic routing throuah a pond is stressed along with wind mixing, thermal stratification, pond geometry, and other basic design parameters. The final form of the model is a working equation based on analyses of the various pond processes; because of the complexity of the final analytical model, it must be applied using computerized methods.
