The paper addresses faecal coliform reduction in a large wastewater stabilization pond system. It was found that values of the faecal coliform reduction rate coefficient (Kb) increased with increasing water temperature (Tw), solar radiation (Rs) and pH and with decreasing total BOD5 (CBOD), soluble BOD5 (SBOD) and surface organic loading (BA,CBOD) Correlation analysis has shown that Kb is more responsive to Tw than to Rs and to SBOD than to CBOD. An optimized-parameter model was developed to describe Kb in secondary ponds.
