Hydrolysis and acidogenesis in anaerobic digestion comprises the first step in converting biodegradable particulates into methane gas. The optimum conditions in this stage are different from those for methanogenesis. Results of tests to solubilize organic particulates of a known size distribution are presented and discussed here.
