This paper will present a novel approach to the maintenance of instrumentation and systems. It will show that the true cost of ownership can be quantified by careful thought in the conception and design of systems and instrumentation. The authors will try to identify the true cost of inaccurate process information caused by poorly conceived instrumentation and maintenance.
