The objectives of the study were to compare the actual lagoon treatment of raw leachate at a landfill site with an alternative employing a single basin sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The SBR treating the anaerobic lagoon effluent is the best option. The stricter suspended solids limits can be met most of the time at steady state but are consistently exceeded during unsteady state conditions. BOD, COD and nutrients residual concentrations where within the stricter new proposed regulations in Québec, Canada. In this study, the raw leachate SBR could not meet the COD and SS removal requirements of the proposed regulation.
