Water Science & Technology Special Issue on

Water and Resources Recovery Modelling




This special issue covers all aspects of water and resource recovery modelling, especially “within the fence” (whole plant modelling). It is based on the WRRmod2022+ seminar that has an objective to disseminate recent findings and case studies towards development of best practices for the most pressing challenges faced by the water and resource recovery industry. The WRRmod2022+ seminar was organized by the at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Water Research Group (WRG)

We are pleased to invite you to submit a manuscript to Water Science & Technology for peer review and possible publication in a Special Issue entitled “Water and Resource Recovery Modelling”.


Relevant topics include:

  • Activated sludge and biofilm processes
  • Sludge treatment and managements of solids
  • Modelling resource recovery from waste
  • solid/ liquid separation processes
  • Aquatic chemistry
  • Micropollutants of concern
  • Uncertainty, model calibration and model validation
  • Integrated water and resource recovery facilities (WRRF) modelling and system-wide evaluations
  • Modelling systems for climate adaptation and climate mitigation
  • Digitalization, data-driven modelling, and hybrid models
  • Process design, operation, and control
  • Aeration, mass transfer, mixing and system hydraulics
  • Computational fluid dynamics


Key dates:

Deadline for manuscript submission: January 15th, 2023

Expected publication: Articles will be published online as soon as possible after acceptance.

How to submit:

Please make sure that your paper follows the Instructions to Authors of the journal, before submitting your paper directly to Water Science & Technology’s peer review system. Then choose the article type – ‘Special Issue Article OA’ and the submission category – Special Issue: WRRmod2022+. This will send your paper to one of the Guest Editors.
